Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have etched their names into African sporting history once again clinching a record-breaking fifth consecutive AfroBasket Women title on Sunday night in Kigali, Rwanda.
In a thrilling and fiercely contested final, the defending champions overpowered Mali with a commanding 78–64 victory to lift their seventh AfroBasket crown overall.
With this win, D’Tigress become the first African nation — male or female — to win five straight continental basketball titles, reinforcing their dominance on the court across the continent.
Even more astonishing, the team has now gone on an unbeaten run of 29 games, not tasting defeat in AfroBasket competition since 2015. Their streak is unmatched in African basketball.
Led by an indomitable squad filled with both experienced stars and rising talents, Nigeria overcame intense pressure from a spirited Malian side to seal the historic win — adding yet another golden chapter to their legacy.
