FCT, Abuja – A prominent northern business mogul and elder statesman, Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim, has died.
He passed away in the early hours of Saturday, August 16, at a private hospital in Abuja, aged 88.
Who was Ibrahim Isiaku?
Ibrahim was a close associate of the late President Shehu Usman Shagari and played a pivotal role in the formation of the Second Republic ruling party, the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
He hailed from Mangar in the Farin Ruwa Area Administrative Council of Wamba Local Government Area, Nasarawa state.
Beyond politics, Ibrahim left his mark on Nigerian sports. He was the founder of the Mighty Jets Football Club of Jos in the 1970s and became the first Nigerian to hire a foreign coach from Brazil to manage a local team.
He also purchased a luxury bus for the club and invested millions of naira to propel the once-feared Mighty Jets to victory.
Ibrahim was among the first two Nigerians to own a private jet, underscoring his influence and status as a business trailblazer in the country, as reported by the Cable.
Family confirms passing of Ibrahim Isiaku
Confirming his passing, his nephew, Dr Musa Ibrahim, a retired permanent secretary, described him as a patriotic figure.
“With total submission to the will of God, I hereby announce the passing of one of Nigeria’s towering political figures and a philanthropist per excellence, my uncle, Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim. He died today (Saturday).
His Janaza prayer will be held after the Zuhr prayers at the National Mosque in Abuja,” Dr Ibrahim told Daily Trust.
He added:
“For those who know him, Alhaji was highly principled and patriotic, one of the very few northern politicians that had the Region at heart. May God grant his soul eternal rest.”
