INEC has launched the Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to expand access ahead of Nigeria’s next elections
Online pre-registration began on 18th August 2025, with in-person registration set to follow from 25th August at INEC offices nationwide
Eligible Nigerians aged 18 and above can register, collect or transfer their PVCs, and replace lost or damaged card
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced its Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, marking a significant step in Nigeria’s preparations for future electoral cycles.
The initiative, which began with online pre-registration on 18th August 2025, is designed to expand voter access and streamline the registration process across the country.
Online Voter’s Pre-registration Begins At INEC Portal
INEC confirmed that eligible Nigerians can now begin their voter registration journey online via the dedicated portal [cvr.inecnigeria.org](http://cvr.inecnigeria.org). The commission stated that the digital platform allows citizens to input their personal details and schedule appointments for biometric capture, reducing wait times and improving efficiency.
Officials described the online pre-registration as a “critical first step” in ensuring that every eligible voter is accounted for ahead of the next election cycle. The commission urged citizens to take advantage of the platform early to avoid last-minute congestion.
In-person CRV to commence on 25th August, 2025 Nationwide
INEC announced that in-person registration will begin on 25th August 2025 at all 37 State Offices and 774 Local Government Area (LGA) Offices across Nigeria . These centres will facilitate biometric verification, PVC collection, and other voter services.
The commission emphasised that the registration centres were strategically located to ensure accessibility for all Nigerians, regardless of geographic location. Citizens were encouraged to visit the office nearest to them for prompt service.
New voters must be 18 year or older
INEC reiterated that only individuals aged 18 and above are eligible to register as new voters. The commission stated that this requirement aligns with Nigeria’s electoral laws and ensures that only qualified citizens participate in the democratic process.
PVC collection, transfer and replacement are available
In addition to new registrations, the CVR exercise also accommodates:
Collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs)
Transfer of voter registration for those who have relocated
Replacement of lost or damaged PVCs
INEC noted that these services are vital for maintaining accurate voter records and ensuring that all citizens are properly equipped to vote.
INEC warn against multiple registration
The commission issued a strong warning against multiple registrations, which remain prohibited under electoral guidelines. INEC stated that its biometric systems are capable of detecting duplicate entries and that violators may face penalties.
INEC urges early participation in CVR 2025
INEC officials encouraged Nigerians to register early, citing the importance of timely participation in the voter registration process. The commission’s public message—“Don’t wait, get started now”—was widely shared across social media platforms under the hashtag #CVR2025.
As the CVR exercise gains momentum, INEC has called on civil society groups, media outlets, and community leaders to help raise awareness and mobilise eligible voters nationwide.
